Burned-out trans activist Caz Davis returns to Rūrangi, the rural dairy community he fled 10 years ago, hoping to reconnect with his father who hasn’t heard from him since before he transitioned. As Caz starts reconciling with his past friends, demons, and most importantly with his father, he finds a new life-affirming purpose; spearheading the environmental fight which is dividing the town.

"Rūrangi's director Max Currie is a writer, director and Berlinale Talent from Auckland, New Zealand. After hosting and directing NZ's weekly LGBTQ television show Queernation for two years at the age of 21, Max cut his teeth on drama writing full-time for over five years on prime-time serial Shortland Street (TV 2). In 2011, Max stepped up to write on both seasons of the 1-hour comedy drama series Step Dave (TV 2). Max's debut feature as writer/director was the 2014 festival darling Everything We Loved (produced by Tom Hern)."
