There’s something very queer happening at a bar in Brooklyn and ‘A Night at Switch n’ Play’ gives you front row seats. Switch n’ Play is a queer performance collective that stages fabulous subversive drag and burlesque shows. The ensemble breaks down traditional gender roles and pushes the limits of what drag and burlesque can be. But more than that, they are a tight-knit family of outsiders who welcome audiences into a world where everyone can be themselves.

For a long time, the only places gay men could see their lives and desires depicted on screen was at their local “all-male” adult cinema. From coming out stories to romances, from bizarro horror to camp comedies, the hundreds of films by the gay adult film industry throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s were a driving force behind the spread of gay culture. ‘Ask Any Buddy’ compiles fragments from over 125 adult films to create a kaleidoscopic snapshot of the era.

Iya works at a hospital in Leningrad in the aftermath of WWII, doing what she can to alleviate soldiers’ pain while caring for a three-year-old. Suffering from bouts of paralysis due to her time on the frontline, Iya is beset by tragedy and her situation is further complicated by the return of fellow soldier Masha. Berlin-Kreuzberg is Nora’s microcosm. Nora is always just tagging along. At parties, at school and at the pool. She drifts around the monotonous housing blocks with her sister and her sister’s friends, observing those around her. Her world is full of girls who want to be slim and pretty and boys who say dumb things just to provoke others. When she meets Romy, Nora is shaken out of her observer’s stance. Seen through Nora’s eyes, this film is a beautiful coming-of-age story about a summer of change.

The Cinematheque’s Børnebiffen and MIX COPENHAGEN have joined forces to create a day for families. The event will start with a screening of the School Film short film program. You're going to be drawn into the world of animation where you’ll encounter everything from youthful insatiability to dancing badgers. These films shine a light on topics that range from discovering love to finding oneself, with a common theme that there is no ‘correct’ path in life. The program is aimed at children aged 5–10. The short film program will be followed by a visit by fabulous drag queen DiDi Cancerella and drag king Dallas King. Over the past year, the two have held a series of events where they've read aloud for children, which they will also be doing for our event. Both the screening and reading will take place inside the cinema with a small break in between. We are looking forward to welcoming you to a fun and thoughtful day for the little ones.

A number of national and international research projects suggest that LGBTQ+ people are particularly challenged in the area of health and well-being. Several factors play into this, one of which may be that LGBTQ+ people make less use of doctors and the health care system than the rest of the population, which in the long term creates health inequality. In connection with the launch of the website lgbtsundhed.dk MIX COPENHAGEN in cooperation with LGBT+ Denmark will organise a day focusing on the meeting with the health system. A panel of health and LGBTQ+ experts will talk about how we make it safer for LGBTQ+ people to go to the doctor, and during a pop-up consultation, you can ask questions and learn about your rights and opportunities as an LGBTQ+ person when you seek medical attention. What image does film, TV and media create of LGBTI young people in Denmark and in the Nordic countries? Is the picture true, is it necessary and is it a support or a hindrance? This will be the start of a debate with representatives from the LGBTI community – both young people and parents, as well as the media and film world. They will discuss the conditions for LGBTI youth in 2020. During the debate, we will also hear the panel's suggestions on what the Nordic Council of Ministers should take into a new cooperation for the benefit of LGBTI people in the Nordic countries. The event is one of seven events that, in addition to Denmark, take place in Finland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Åland. Points and recommendations from the debates are brought together in a Think piece, which will be involved in Nordic cooperation to improve the conditions for gender equality in Denmark and in the Nordic countries. Can we see through ‘the eye of the anus’ (literally)? These are questions that permeate this film, which invites viewers to plunge into the protagonist’s memories, despair, and desires. The asshole initiates the film and functions as a gateway into the character’s mind.
