About MIX Copenhagen

MIX CPH started in 1986 and has become Denmark’s oldest recurring and ever-active film festival, making it the leading LGBTQ+ Film Festival of the Nordics. We are a volunteer organization, driven by passionate LGBTQ+ film lovers who use their spare time to make MIX CPH a special event, not just for the LGBTQ+ community, but for all of Copenhagen and beyond.

Our goal is to show films that question and challenge boundaries inherent in mainstream portrayals of gender and sexuality, and reflect the diverse world we live in.

When you mention MIX COPENHAGEN, you can use the following names:

MIX COPENHAGEN 2020 Program

— MIX COPENHAGEN lasts 10 days, starting from Friday 23/10 to Sunday 1/11 2020.

— We are screening 86 Films: 13 Documentaries, 31 Feature Films & 42 Short Films.

— We are a group of 18 volunteers (aka MIXers) behind organizing MIX COPENHAGEN 2020. We are joined by 13 festival volunteers (aka MIXtivists) that will help us run the MIX Lounge and much much more.

— There are a total of 10.000 people that join MIX COPENHAGEN every year.

— MIX CPH started in 1986 and has become Denmark’s oldest recurring and ever-active film festival, making it the leading LGBTQ+ Film Festival of the Nordics.

— 2020 marks MIX COPENHAGEN's 35th anniversary year, which will be celebrated with various events, lectures and a look back at the festival's history over the years.

— This year MIX COPENHAGEN LGBTQ+ Film Festival is launching a new series of events under the umbrella 'MIX Industry Weekend'. Their goal is to be a resource for local talent and boost queer independent cinema. With the new initiative, MIX COPENHAGEN is also aspiring to become a gathering point for industry professionals, where local filmmakers can meet international professionals representing different queer film organizations, festivals, distributors and producers.

— In recent years there has been a tendency for queer films to get more mainstream distribution (think ‘Moonlight’, ‘Carol’, ‘Call Me By Your Name’, ‘Rafiki’, ‘Love, Simon’). This has made it harder for smaller LGBTQ+ festivals to screen them, particularly considering the cuts in funding MIX CPH receive year after year. Though they are happy to see these titles become more accessible for wider audiences, one potential downside is the straightwashing of these stories that make it through to the mainstream. MIX CPH want to see authentic storylines and real experiences that allow for honest and inclusive representation. This is the powerful vision MIX strives to deliver in their programming.
