THE LILI AWARD

Our award for Best Feature, Best Documentary and Best Short Film is named after the Danish transgender artist Lili Elbe, who became the first person to undergo gender affirming surgery in 1930. She was married to accomplished artist Gerda Wegener. They moved to Paris in 1912 to live openly as lesbians.

The films in competition are nominated by MIX’s programmers and the winners are selected by the international jury. The Lili Award is presented to remarkable films that challenge existing norms of sexuality and gender.
